DataMate Conversion Software Instructions

Instructions for converting databases from DataMate v 6.0 to DataMate v 7.0 using the Convert program downloaded from the LaMotte Company web site.

Note: DataMate version 7.0 must be installed prior to running the convert program.

You must know the name of the directory containing v7.0 and the name of the directory containing v6.0. You must be familiar with opening directories and copying files from one directory to another in Windows. Consult your Windows manuals for help if you are not familiar with these tasks.

Note: this conversion program can be run at any time, even if you already have customers saved in your v7.0 program. Converted customers will be put into your existing database.

Datamate Conversion Software Instructions

1. Download the file "convert.exe" into a directory called "convert" on your c drive. (Choose the "save to disk" option, then use the "create new folder" button to make the "convert" directory).
2. Choose Run from the menu on your Start button. Type "C:\convert\convert.exe". This will inflate the files needed to install the conversion program.
3. If your v7.0 program was installed into the same directory that contained your v6.0 program skip steps 4-10 and proceed directly to step 11 of these instructions. If your v7.0 was installed in a different directory from your v6.0 continue to step 4 and proceed from there.
4. Using the "My Computer" icon, open the directory containing v6.0, it should be on your C drive.
5. Using your mouse click once on the file labeled Customer.db so that it becomes highlighted.
6. While holding down the Ctrl key, use the mouse to click once on each of the following files: Customer.px, Test.db and Test.px. They should all become highlighted, also.
7. Choose Edit/Copy from the menu at the top of the window containing these files.
8. Close the v6.0 directory.
9. Open the directory containing v7.0.
10. Choose Edit/Paste from the menu at the top of the v7.0 directory window. The Customer.db, Customer.px, Test.db and Test.px files that were copied from the v6.0 directory should appear in the v7.0 directory.
11. Choose Run from the menu on your Start button. Type "C:\Convert\Setup.exe".
12. Follow the installation instructions on screen.
13. Be sure that the Destination directory is the same directory that contains your DataMate v 7.0. If it is not, use the Browse button to choose the proper directory.
14. Change the Program Folder to DataMate 7.0, if it has not already defaulted there, unless you installed your v7.0 software in a different program folder. In that case choose the proper program folder.
15. After the installation is complete you must run the conversion program: Choose Programs from the menu on your Start button. Then choose DataMate 7.0/Convert. This will open the conversion program.
16. If your customers were entered in v6.0 with their first name first, select this option. If they were entered with last name first (Smith, John) select this option.
17. Click on the button labeled "Start Conversion". (Data conversion may take a few minutes. When the conversion is done the program will tell you how many customers and how many tests were converted.)
18. When the conversion is completed click on the Exit button.
19. Open the DataMate 7.0 program. Go to Database/Indexing and then click on the Start button.
20. Your Customers and their test results have now been converted from your DataMate v 6.0 to your DataMate v 7.0 program.
